October Escapades: Half Term Travel Inspiration

by | Aug 23, 2023 | 0 comments

Hello, my freshly suntanned darlings!

With the summer holidays drawing to a close, people are starting to look towards planning their next family getaway. For us here in the UK, this usually falls around October half-term time. Just as the sun decides to do its annual ghosting act and we’re all swathed in twelve layers of knitwear, there comes a point where even the cosiest of fireside reading nooks can’t compete with the lure of a sunny escape. And let’s face it, unless you fancy frostbite on the tip of your nose, you might want to consider a cheeky overseas getaway. So where are the best places to go in October then? Well I am glad you asked…

The Algarve, Portugal

First on our list is Portugal’s sun-kissed Algarve. While your neighbours are turning up the heat back home, you could be lounging on a golden beach with a sangria in hand. It’s a region where the weather’s still deliciously mild, golf courses are top-notch, and the pastel de nata pastries are just as scrumptious as ever. Cheeky tip: don’t stuff them all in your suitcase for the return journey; customs might not understand.

Cyprus

Now, if you want to flirt with the idea of summer a little longer, dash to Cyprus. With its sapphire waters, historic ruins, and delightful Mediterranean cuisine, it’s as if summer just refuses to leave this gem. And frankly, I wouldn’t leave either if I was being fed halloumi every day.

Limassol in Cyrpus

Malta

Speaking of tiny islands with massive character, let’s chat about Malta. This little archipelago boasts some of Europe’s most stunning architecture and clear blue waters. Plus, Valletta’s baroque streets are just begging for a selfie (with a chic autumnal beret, of course).

Marrakech, Morocco

For those craving a dash of the exotic, Marrakech is your spicy ticket. Wander around the vibrant souks, indulge in Moroccan treats, and yes, barter like you’ve never bartered before. Just imagine telling your pals you got that intricate rug for a fiver (don’t mention the extra two zeros).

Marrakech, Morocco

Crete, Greece

Last, but in no way the least, Crete is Greece’s biggest island and come October, it’s slightly cooler (but still sunny, oh don’t you worry). With a unique blend of beaches, ancient ruins, and delicious Greek cuisine, you’ll have the delightful conundrum of deciding between a beach day or a Mythology 101 tour.

Crete, Greece

In conclusion, darlings, October doesn’t have to mean succumbing to winter’s chill. With the world at our fingertips and a plethora of spots just waiting for a visit, there’s no reason to don the woolies just yet. So, swap that pumpkin spice latte for a cocktail, dust off your suitcase and let’s keep the sunny vibes going a little bit longer!

Until next time, safe travels and even safer tanning! Cheers! 🍹🌞
