The Sizzling Scoop on Destination Weddings

by | Jun 21, 2023 | 0 comments

Alright, lovebirds and travel junkies, it’s time to talk about something exciting, adventurous, and potentially boozy (no, not my upcoming weekend in the lazy spa). Let’s chat about destination weddings!

I’ll soon be hosting a travel stand at a wedding fair next week and it’s given me a great opportunity to extensively research, and revisit the subject on all things honeymoon and weddings, beyond what I already knew of course. I thought I’d share some of what I’ve learned with you so far.  Starting with destination weddings…

You know, when you tie the knot in a place that’s not the UK?

And why, dear reader, should you consider this? Well, as your unofficial guide, I’m about to let you in on the magical world of the appeal to getting hitched abroad.

Now, imagine, just for a moment, saying “I do” against the backdrop of a stunning Caribbean sunset, a dreamy Tuscany villa, or the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Canadian Rockies. Sounds more Instagram-worthy than a rainy ceremony in good ol’ Blighty, doesn’t it?

Destination weddings, my friends, are the Michelin-star menu of the matrimonial world. They serve up adventure, intimacy, and that je ne sais quoi that leaves Aunty Susan both thrilled and slightly envious. Plus, they blend the magic of weddings with the thrill of travel – and who wouldn’t want that?

But is a destination wedding right for you? Well, if you’re the type who thinks that wedding traditions are as outdated as the iPhone 10, then I’ve got good news for you. Destination weddings offer a unique and personalised experience. No more cookie-cutter weddings in stuffy town halls, dilapidated churches or mainstream hotel conference rooms. Instead, envision a beachside ceremony in Bali or a picturesque exchange of the vows in a historic castle in Denmark. You’ll not only wow your guests, but you’ll also make memories that last longer than Uncle Bob’s questionable dance moves.

What guests I hear you ask? Sure, it’s understandable that a lot of people you’d likely have attend your wedding in the UK won’t be able to afford to be a guest at your ceremony abroad, but there’s something to be said for the charm a smaller, more intimate wedding can bring.

Worried about how much it would all cost overall? Here’s the skinny – destination weddings can be surprisingly affordable. Granted, you’re not just hiring a venue; you’re also booking flights and accommodation. But a wedding abroad often involves fewer guests, which means less cash splashed on those extra seats and buffet dinners. Plus, the wedding and honeymoon can blend into one beautiful, love-filled vacay. It’s a win-win! It’ll generally cost you less to get married overseas, and many honeymoon destinations will often offer to host your wedding absolutely free if you stay with them, or at least for a minimal cost.

Of course, there are logistics to consider. Potential language barriers, legal documents, attendee coordination…etc, and planning from afar can feel a bit like trying to untangle Christmas lights. But that’s where your trusty Travel Agents (like us here at The Big Surprise) come in. We’re the superheroes of organisation and planning, ensuring everything runs as smoothly as Adam Sandler’s one liners in The Wedding Singer.

In conclusion, destination weddings are like the limited edition, shiny, holographic Charizard Pokemon card of the wedding world. They’re unique, unforgettable, and a little bit showy – in the best possible way. So, if you’re all about love, travel, and making Aunt Susan a tad green with envy, then say ‘I do‘ in a setting you’ll never forget.

Yours in globetrotting matrimony,

Lynnabeth
